I recently wrote an article for M&M Global on the investment in digital marketing agencies by big publishing houses. As a lover of the printed word and the owner of far too many books, the predicted demise of hardcopy publishing alarms me despite the environmental benefits I recognise that digital brings. I spoke to a number of people in the publishing world for it, including Stuart Applebaum at Random House, who publish many of my favourite authors, and Liz Schimel at Meredith, whose titles include Better Homes & Garden and Fitness. I was pleased to note that I need not worry that books are a thing of the past as they both confirmed that their investments are to enhance their traditional offerings and allow their users to experience their books in different ways. Phew!
